Ventura leads top performers at women’s draft combine

Sthefanie Ventura headed the list of top performers in the WNBL Draft Combine last December 12-13 at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.

Ventura, who played college ball with Centro Escolar University, topped two categories in the 3/4 court sprint with a time of 3.18 seconds and the lane agility with a clocking of 12.66 seconds.

Ventura actually ended up in a tie for fastest time in the lane agility with Noella Joy Cruz in the combine where the aspirants underwent several tests to gauge them better for the upcoming draft in the first-ever women’s professional basketball league in the country.

Meanwhile, Eliezza Dianne Ventura stood out in the max vertical jump with a leap of 27 inches as Syl Kristine Alcantara took first place in the 300-yard shuttle run with a time of one minute and one second.

Kathleen Araja and Mary Rose Labrador also made a good impression in the draft combine by ruling the shooting drill with an 83 percent average.

WNBL ambassador Kiefer Ravena was present to personally see the 115 aspirants who attended.

Performance tests were conducted during the combine supervised by the Games and Amusements Board and conducted with strict health and safety protocols that included antigen testing before entering the venue of the combine supported by Victoria Sports, Chris Sports, Phenom, Tanita, Chooks-to-Go, Uling Roasters, and GIG Sportswear.

No scrimmages were held as part of the protocols, but a video of the combine will be furnished to the teams. trainers Karlo Santos, Mark Caron, Aldo Panlilio, and Justin Aquino supervised the agility exams, and two coaches from Tamita administered the body composition tests.
