Blazers maul Lions to set championship duel with Cardinals

College of St. Benilde completed its ascent back to the finals with a merciless 79-63 destruction of last year’s titlist San Beda Saturday in NCAA Season 100 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

It completed the Blazers’ impressive season sweep of the Lions, whom the former also vanquished twice in the elimination round.

More importantly, it catapulted CSB straight to the best-of-three title showdown with Mapua starting Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Game Two is set Dec. 7 while a deciding Game Three, if necessary, is slated Dec. 14 all at the Big Dome.

Allen Liwag delivered San Beda the death sentence with a powerful 20-point and eight-rebound effort, a performance that underscored his capability to win the most coveted individual award of the season—the MVP.

Tony Ynot also helped in hammering in the final nail in the coffin of his former school by coming through with 17 points, four dimes, three caroms, a steal and a block.
