Secret Spices rules MBL Chairman’s Cup

The Secret Spices Food Specialists crowned themselves the new champion in the recent MBL Chairman’s Cup as they beat defending champion Royal Tern Ceramic Makers, 100-91, in the finals held at the Aquinas Gym in San Juan.

They avenged their opening-day loss to the same team in the process.

MVP awardee and London-based Joward Jamis, who used to play for RTU and Wang’s, led the champion team with 27 points and got support from ex-Letran Knight Jonathan Pinera and PUP stand-out Reggie Tau-Tuan with 22 points apiece.

Playing coach Macky Villarta chipped in 5 points .

Chinito Bondoc led Royal Tern’s losing effort with 28 points, while PBA draftee Anthony Cuevas added 27 markers.

Royal Tern was ahead, 54-49, at half time before losing steam in the second half.

“We have been doing this year-end tournament for the last 23 years. We play twice a week throughout the year and end it with this tournament that coincides with our yearly Christmas party,” said sportsman-businessman Alex Wang, who also plays in the tournament.
