Chooks-to-Go wins Jakarta 3×3 tourney

Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas, which is preparing to see action in an Olympic Qualifying Tournament, drew 10 points from Alvin Pasaol in putting away host Indonesia, 21-17, claim the Jakarta 3×3 International Invitational Challenge 2019 on Saturday evening.

Pasaol knocked down two free throws with 2:58 left, and this won the game for Team Philippines in this race-to-21 affair.

“We are preparing for the OQT. This is a good tournament to start. I’m really proud of the boys,” said team program director Eric Altamirano.

Joshua Munzon, who is the top Filipino player in the FIBA 3×3 ranking at world no. 105, added seven points while Santi Santillan added three.

Their triumph over Indonesia allowed the Philippines to complete five-game sweep of this cagefest which is hosted by Indonesian federation PERBASI as part of the SEA Games.

Pasaol, along with Munzon, are also getting ready to play for the Philippine national men’s 3×3 basketball team that will be formed for the 2020 FIBA 3X3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament this March in Delhi, India.

With the game tied at 17-all, Munzon forced his way underneath for a go-ahead bucket the broke the deadlock with less than four minutes to play.

Chooks 3×3 started their stint with a 21-10 triumph over world no. 40 Chinese-Taipei.

Then, they repulsed SEA Games-bound squads Malaysia, 21-17, Indonesia,21-13, and Vietnam (19-14) to sweep the eliminations.
