The San Beda Red Lions could break league records in their next three games in the 95th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament.

But, coach Boyet Fernandez is not thinking about it when the Red Lions face the Mapua University Cardinals at 2 p.m. today at the FilOil-Flying V Sports Center in San Juan.

the Red Lions will claim their best showing three season if they post their 16th straight win with a victory over the Cardinals.

“We’re just thinking of getting one more win out of their last three games,” said Fernandez, after the Red Lion demolished the Letran Knights, 75-63, last Tuesday for their 15th consecutive victory, and three games nearer a sweep and an automatic finals berth.

Last season, the Red Lions won 14 straight matches before taking their 22nd cage crown after besting the Lyceum Pirates, via a two-game sweep of the best-of-three finals last season.

In season 93, the Red Lions came up with a 15-game winning streak during the elimination round.

After the Cardinals, the Red Lions will have the Lyceum Pirates and the College of St. Benilde Blazers as their remaining rivals.

The Cardinals are smarting from a 94-99 loss to the Lyceum Pirates, who will clash with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 4 p.m.

The Blazers, who are in sixth at 6-7, meet the University of Perpetual Help Altas at 12 noon.

In yesterday’s action, the Letran Knights drew 18 points from Bonbon Batiller in stopping the Arellano Chiefs, 97-84, for their 10th win in 16 matches, and this kept them in contention for the no. 3 seed in the Final Four.

The San Sebastian Stags, led by Alvin Capobres with 21 points, won over the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 62-59, to improve at fourth with their 8-6 slate.

In the junior side, the Arellano Braves got 25 points from Chris Recto in repulsing the Letran Aquires, 65-59, to move up to second spot with their 9-6 card.

Nikko Aguilar struck with 19 points for the San Sebastian Staglets, who outplayed the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers, 94-91, to gain a share of third at 8-6 with the Lyceum Junior Pirates.
