Mighty win for Mighty Sports-PH in Jones Cup

Mighty Sports-Philippines got off to another strong start and won pulling away for the second straight game, mauling Jordan, 90-74, in the William Jones Cup Saturday at the Changhua County Gym in Changhua, Taiwan.

With Eugene Phelps and Renaldo Balkman presiding over the team’s onslaught, Mighty Sports was never in trouble as it used its quickness and solid defensive transition to disarm the beefy Jordanians.

And for the second straight time, Phelps led the Go For Gold-backed team with 20 points, while Balkman and Fil-Am Roosevelt Adams chipped in 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Fil-Am Mikey Williams was again on target as he buried three triples for the second straight game to help Mighty – also backed by Healthcube —  establish a 44-29 halftime lead.

Zach Graham, another former PBA import, also shone offensively as he knocked down all his 9 points in the first two quarters.

The win was a fitting follow-up to the team’s 98-72 win over the Iranians.

Mighty battles Japan today with coach Charles Tiu looking to notch their third straight win and extend the team’s streak to 10 games since completing an eight-game sweep of the championship three years ago.

The loss was the second straight for Jordan as it absorbed a 69-64 defeat to Korea also Friday.

Mighty posted its biggest lead at 68-44.
