After the success of Dunk King Warner TV partnered with the Youth Sports Advocacy (YSA) and engaged more than a hundred kids in a five-week training program for basketball and volleyball called Beyond the Hoop at the Fortune Elementary and High School in Barangay Fortune, Marikina City.

Young athletes from less fortunate families participated in exhibition games as they played together and showcased all the skills they learned during the culminating activity held in the school’s covered court.

“We were inspired by our top rating show Dunk King which is all about taking people out of obscurity and making them popular in sports and dunking in particular,” said Turner Philippines Country Manager Jia Salindong-Du.

Dunk King, the slam dunk contest that captured the hearts of basketball enthusiasts, is a reality competition series that offers ballers the opportunity of a lifetime and win $100,000. The TNT Original Series aired on Warner TV February this year.

The event was also part of YSA’s Athlete’s Social Responsibility (ASR) attended by athletes, former athletes, coaches, and youth sports advocates to “play it forward” as a way to give back to their communities. They helped teach the YSA kids basic skills, unleash their athletic potential and instill good values through sports.

“This is the first but we are definitely open to partnering. We just really found a good match with their sports advocacy because they are really trying to help underprivileged kids and we felt that it was in line with the inspiration that we have. We’ll definitely keep it going,” said Salindong-Du.

“We’d like to thank the Youth Sports Advocacy for helping us impart the values of discipline, teamwork, respect, and hard work to the kids of Fortune Elementary School. Together with our partners, we look forward to touching more lives and driving awareness behind our upcoming program Beyond the Hoop Dunk King challenge starting this November.” she said.
