Crucial tiffs at UNTV Cup

Streaking Ombudsman and Judiciary try to firm up their bids for the second twice-to-beat advantage in the semis when they square off on Sunday in the 2nd UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Pasig City Sports Center.

Lawyer Armando Sanchez Jr. (right) hopes to lead the Ombudsman Graft Busters to a crucial win over the Judiciary Magis on Sunday.

The Graftbusters and the Magis clash at 3:30 p.m. with both teams going for a crucial win in the single-round elimination round now heading to its last two playdates.

Both teams tote similar 4-1 cards with the Magis coming off a 108-50 thumping of the GSIS Furies last Sunday—thanks to the 30-point show of Pampanga MTC Judge Wendell Ramitere.

The Graftbusters, however, will be playing with fresher legs than the Magis having rested for two weeks in the event organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.

Aside from Ramitere, also expected to deliver for the Magis are Jose Midas Marquez, Joey Yabut and Gerard Tomacruz.

Idle Philippine National Police is already assured of a bonus after extending its winning streak to six games two weeks ago.

Meantime, Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission will be going for its third win against the already eliminated Department of Justice.

With a 2-3 card, the Sec. Bong Go-led Kamao should win their last two games to forge a playoff for the last semis berth in the tournament offering P1 million to the champion team.

Go has averaged 45.5 points in the team’s last two games.

Clashing in the first game at 2 p.m. are deposed champion Armed Forces of the Philippines and GSIS.
