THE holding of home games in the campuses of member schools will continue.

But, this time, only five schools will take part when season 94 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association commences with the senior basketball competitions on July 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Seven schools allowed competitions to be held inside their campuses, but only five were given the green light to organize matches in their campuses for the coming schoolyear.

Officials said this after University of Perpetual Help took over as Season 94 host following a turnover ceremony yesterday at the Casino Espanol in San Marcelino.

University of Perpetual Help will be among those which will hold home games, also known as school-based games.

San Sebastian College, Letran, Jose Rizal University and Arellano University also got the green light to host home games.

“Initially, we will continue with the school-based games. It has been a success,” said incoming NCAA policy board chairman Anthony Tamayo following a turnover ceremony with San Sebastian College’s Fr. Nemesio Tolentin.

The home-based format was introduced last season, with intentions of bringing the games closer to the fans.

Last year, San Beda University won the title in many events, including men’s basketball.

The school also dominated chess, taekwondo, soft tennis and swimming.

University of Perpetual took the men’s volleyball and junior volleyball honors, while College of St. Benilde stamped its class in lawn tennis and table tennis.
