SECOND unit player Terrence Fortea’s game is improving in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) junior basketball tournament.

The 5’11” Fortea showed his importance to the team by coming up with the numbers at the end of the first round.

Averaging 12.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals after seven games, emerged as one of the go-to guy of the Nazareth School-National University Bullpups this season.

With Fortea and top performer Rhayyan Amsali providing the needed 1-2 punch, the Bullpups have become the no. 1 offensive squad in the tournament.

“He is doing good. So far, consistent naman siya,” said Bullpups coach Goldwyn Monteverde.

This is the 16-year-old Fortea’s third year with the team, and it’s his outside shooting that’s catching a lot of attention.

John Cansino emerged as one of the top all-around players in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) junior basketball tournament.

After the first round, the 6’1 University of Santo Tomas standout led the scoring and rebounding departments with 27.6 points and 11.6 rebounds.

Last Saturday, the Tiger Cubs were once again led by Cansino, who had 32 points when they prevailed over University of the East, 106-99.

This is considered as his second highest output after he made 35 last Nov. 26 when the Tiger Cubs lost the Nazareth School-National University Bullpups.

In their last game of the first round, Fortea came off the bench in the first period and pushed the Nazareth School-National University Bullpups into the lead, and into a 103-79 smashing of the University of the Philippine Integrated School Junior Maroons.

The 5’11” Fortea, who made 8 of 11 points in the opening period, fueled  the Bullpups bid to earn their sixth win in seven outings at the end of the first round.
