Teodoro carries Bombers

TEY Teodoro was on fire in the last five minutes.

He scored 19 points, spiked by four triples to power the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers to a 73-62 smashing of the San Sebastian Stags at their own home court in Recto, Manila last night.

The 5’9” Teodoro connected twice in a row in the last 3:32, allowing JRU to move away for good and earn their fifth victory in eight games in the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association  men’s basketball tournament.

The Heavy Bombers’ third consecutive triumph allowed them to solidify their grip on fourth position.

“Nagising na. Sabi ko sa kanya, to be part of the rotation, you have to learn everything. To have respect, you earn it.  You want minutes, more minutes, you work for it,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses.

When Teodoro’s triples found their mark, the Heavy Bombers’ pressure defense began taking its toll on the Stags, who fell behind on three turnovers in the ensuing play.

JRU eventually enjoyed a 70-60 spread on another triple, this time from Jed Mendoza, with 5:14 to go.

In the junior division, newcomer Neil Villapando stepped up just in time to help the San Sebastian Staglets find their rhythm in the third period and stop the JRU Light Bombers, 71-60, at the SSC-Recoletos gymnasium in Manila.
