Generals face Chiefs, seek solo 3rd spot

EMILIO Aguinaldo College guns for solo third spot, while Arellano University seeks a share of it with Letran as the two collide today in the 93rd NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Arena in San Juan City.

The Generals trounced the Mapua Cardinals, 77-72, on July 25 to improve to an even 2-2 (win-loss) record, while the Chiefs are coming off a stinging 75-82 defeat to the Letran Knights last week to skid out of the magic four with a 2-3 mark.

Sydney Onwubere is expected to spearhead EAC’s attack anew after exploding for 22 points, including a clutch triple the last time out.

A victory for EAC would push it to No. 3 ahead of idle Letran (3-3) and behind unbeaten Lyceum of the Philippines University (6-0) and defending champion San Beda (5-1).

For Arellano University, a triumph would catapult it back to the top four and joint No. 3 with the Knights.

EAC coach Ariel Sison said it’s all about his team’s determination to win.

“We have a veteran squad and it’s a matter of getting that will to win,” said Sison.

Mapua and College of St. Benilde, which own identical 1-4 slates, for their part, aim to get out of last place as the two tangle at 4 p.m.
