Borja, who finished with a time of 15:31, trailed in the swim but overtook Leonardo Tyrone Macalos (15:58) and Dash Aron Ramirez (16:10) in the uphill portion of the run course to rule the Boys’13 to 14 Category which he dedicated to his mother Jocelyn.

“Because it is Mother’s Day my mother was my inspiration for everything that she’s done for me. I dedicate this race to her. She motivated me to become a triathlete and to continue racing,” said Borja.

In contrast Andaya, the 155th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Most Outstanding Swimmer for 13-year-olds, led from the start to win the 13 to 14 Girls’ Category with a time of 18:12. Princess Julianne Diche Patilan (19:28) and Bernadette Cabatian (20:27) came after her.

“I feel so happy winning this Mother’s Day. I dedicate my win to my mother (Marsha). Thank you Mama for always supporting me. I was nervous at the start because the swimmers were bumping into each other,” said Andaya who gained confidence after she pulled ahead and left the other swimmers behind.

This is the first Alaska IRONKIDS race for the 13-year-old Andaya who is a member of the Batang Pinoy national pool of swimmers.
