Vermosa Sports Hub, Imus, Cavite—This one’s for mom.

Zedric James Borja and Trixie Hann Andaya celebrated a truly memorable Mother’s Day when they won their respective categories in the Alaska IRONKIDS Philippines held here yesterday, May 12.

Borja, who finished with a time of 15:31, trailed in the swim but overtook Leonardo Tyrone Macalos (15:58) and Dash Aron Ramirez (16:10) in the uphill portion of the run course to rule the Boys’13 to 14 Category which he dedicated to his mother Jocelyn.

“Because it is Mother’s Day my mother was my inspiration for everything that she’s done for me. I dedicate this race to her. She motivated me to become a triathlete and to continue racing,” said Borja.

In contrast Andaya, the 155th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Most Outstanding Swimmer for 13-year-olds, led from the start to win the 13 to 14 Girls’ Category with a time of 18:12. Princess Julianne Diche Patilan (19:28) and Bernadette Cabatian (20:27) came after her.

“I feel so happy winning this Mother’s Day. I dedicate my win to my mother (Marsha). Thank you Mama for always supporting me. I was nervous at the start because the swimmers were bumping into each other,” said Andaya who gained confidence after she pulled ahead and left the other swimmers behind.

This is the first Alaska IRONKIDS race for the 13-year-old Andaya who is a member of the Batang Pinoy national pool of swimmers.

Winners in the Boys’11 to 12 category were Marc Dula (12:13), Jessly Reyan Roman (12:33) and Kristoff Daniel David (12:35). Winners among the girls were Aubrey Tom (11:57), Kira Ellis (12:19) and Maria Francesca Barretto (13:32).

Winners in the Boys’ 9 to 10 category were Darell Johnson Braim Bada (9:37), Rafael Miguel Ubiadas (10:16) and Rylee Alem Marasigan (10:23). Winners among the Girls were Jiana Allyn De Asis (9:16), Alyssa Khim Cabatian (9:20) and Maria Zabelle Eugenio (9:49).

Winners in Boys’6 to 8 category were Ethan Kyle Apigo (7:55), Diego Jose Dimayuga (7:57) and Cyler Alcantara Dizon (7:57). Winners among the girls were Samantha Hodges (8:11), Jhanelle Cathlene Yumang (8:42) and Clarisse Ysabel Dalluay (9:14).

Alaska Fortified IRONKIDS Philippines is a race for boys and girls who are four to 14 years old. It is organized and staged by Sunrise Events Presented by Alaska Fortified Powdered Milk Drink.

Future races this year include the Swim-Run in Subic Bay on June 1 and the Swim-Bike-Run, Cebu, August 10.
