Sunrise Sprint, a short swim-bike-run event for beginners seeking to immerse themselves into the sport of triathlon, will spice up the action in the inaugural Black Arrow Express 5150 on Sunday in Subic Bay.

A big-hit in its inaugural season, the Sunrise Sprint, dubbed as S2, is back with a promise of a more exciting, thrilling edition among 273 participants in the 750m open-water swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run race.

The organizing Sunrise Events Inc. has put up the event for triathlon wannabes who want to race without having to worry about long periods of training. It is also aimed at providing a venue for tri-warriors out to make a comeback in the ever-growing sport and at the same time deliver quality triathlon festival experience.

IronKids stalwart Wacky Baniqued banners the cast in the side event of the Black Arrow Express 5150, which has recently inked a three-year contract with SEI to stage the 5150 races.

SEI founder/president Wilfred Uytengsu and Black Arrow’s Allan Brizuela are also competing in the 5150 race while August Benedicto, Rambo Chicano, Raymond Torii, Jorry Ycong, Paul Jumamil and Leonard Rondina lead the chase for top honors in Asian Elite.

Sam Betten, meanwhile, gears up for a record fourth straight 5150 crown in Subic while fellow Aussie Dimity Lee Duke aims for back-to-back title after breaking a three-year spell with a big victory in the country’s triathlon capital last year.

But they will be as much tested as Czech Jakub Langhammer, Tim Linn of the US, and Aussies Dan Brown and Mitch Robins, who are all going all out for a maiden 5150 win here along with Hong Kong’s Leanne Szeto and Guam’s Manami Iijima in the women’s pro side.
