FILIPINO triathletes now have the opportunity to become certified IRONMAN finishers in the Philippines as Century Tuna proudly presents the first-ever full IRONMAN 140.6 on June 3, 2018.

Century Tuna, along with Sunrise Events, will be hosting the milestone of holding the Philippines’ first full IRONMAN, which is double the demand in performance from the previous IRONMAN 70.3.

With the dramatic growth of the triathlon community, Century Tuna strongly believes that Filipinos are now ready to take on the challenge of a full IRONMAN.

The IRONMAN triathlon is considered as the most physically demanding sport in the world due to the physical and mental strength needed to endure the 3.86-km swim, 180.2-km bike ride and 42.2-km run.

Not all triathletes are able to handle the magnitude of the challenge as currently, only around 300 Filipinos were able to complete a full IRONMAN overseas.

Greg Banzon, Vice President and General Manager of Century Pacific Food Inc., understands the sacrifices needed in order to complete this rare feat. Banzon, himself, has successfully completed his first IRONMAN triathlon in Korea in 2011. Banzon had to train twice a day for 20 weeks to become physically and mentally prepared.

“Challenging yourself to push your physical and mental limits to the extreme will seem like a painful task. Despite training hard, anything can still go wrong on race day. It was really the mental toughness and the resolve to finish the full distance that kept me going despite my body being at the brink of shutting down. But, you forget all that once you cross the finish line and hear the announcer call out your name and say ‘You are an IRONMAN!,’” said Banzon.

As Century Tuna hosts the 2018 IRONMAN Philippines, it also hopes to encourage more Filipinos to pursue their own fitness journey and bring the brand closer to its goal of making the Philippines among the healthiest and fittest nations in the world.
