Third time’s the charm for Sergey Kovalev as he needed try number three to shed some weight off for his light heavyweight title bout with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to formally push through.

The Russian champ needed an hour to lose a quarter pound for his 175-pound championship fight against Mexican boxing superstar Alvarez.

At his first stake at the scales, Kovalev was a pound heavy at 176 before taking off his necklace and shorts but still leaving him a tad over the catchweight.

Eventually, after being given the traditional 60-minute layoff to shed the necessary weight, Kovalev returned to the scales and weigh in at the required 175 pounds.

On the other hand, challenger Alvarez had little effort to do to make weight as he is officially 174.5 pounds coming into the fight tomorrow at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The younger Mexican was actually cheered on while the Russian was booed at the official weigh-in.
