MACTAN, Cebu— Wacky Baniqued took the lead from the start – while Tara Borlain had to overtake elder sister Samantha in the run part of the race – to rule the 2016 Alaska IronKids Triathlon Cebu held at the Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa, Saturday, August 6.

Learning from his experience in the Singapore International Triathlon just three weeks ago, where he settled for second place behind a Malaysian, Baniqued grabbed the lead from the swim start then hung on to win the boys’ 13-14 category of the prestigious national race.

Wacky Baniqued crosses the finish line to rule the boys 13-14 years old category of the 2016 Alaska IronKids Triathlon Cebu held at the beachfront of the Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa, Saturday, August 6.

Both Baniqued and Borlain are familiar faces in the podium after Alaska IronKids Triathlon races. Baniqued won two IronKids races this year before the big one in Cebu. Borlain won all three other Alaska IronKids Triathlon prior to the Cebu event.

Borlain, on the other hand, was in second place through the swim and bike part of the race before taking the lead in the run part to rule the girls’ 13-14 category.
