Possible but not probable

Possible but not probableMiami Heat vs. the Denver Nuggets in the NBA finals.

Sorry, but this is not a prediction on my part at all, but is it possible? Yes, it is possible, just like it is possible for the sun not to rise tomorrow, or for the world to end tomorrow, too.

I have long been in the corporate management world and part of the job is to look at different situations and see potential problems, and thus the question if it’s possible always comes up.

My stock answer, of course is, it is possible. But look more on the chances of it happening and answer the question, is it probable instead.

So back to my first line, is it probable that a Heat-Nugget finals will happen? Sorry, but my answer is no. It is possible but not probable, with Denver playing the Lakers in the Western Conference finals, while the Heat are leading the Celtics, 2-1.

I honestly believe that this championship matchup between the Heat and the Nuggets was not considered likely at all. But of course, do not tell this to Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray (okay, include Michael Porter Jr. and Jerami Grant), the top guns of Denver. After all, they came back twice from 1-3 deficits against the Jazz and the Clippers, to be where they are.

And just now that I finished this piece right after Game 3 between Los Angeles and Denver, Jokic and Murray showed that their team’s ability to come back is for real as they kept their composure when the Lakers came roaring back in the final quarter from a 20-point deficit to close in to within 3 points. And now the score is 2-1, still for the Lakers, but certainly not the 3-0 hole people were expecting to see Denver mired in after Game 3 .

By the way, I have more reason to be happy about the Denver victory as I won an online P500 bet with the Nuggets having a plus 6.5 advantage. Truth is, they did not need the plus.

Now, does this make a Miami-Denver finals more possible, but still not probable? For one, if I were to bet again in Game 4, I think my money will go the Lakers this time. And when this series ends, my gut feel tells me it will be the Lakers advancing to the finals.

You noticed I said gut feel and not according to my unreliable crystal ball? It is because I have given up on that ball and threw it away already.

But if the Nuggets prove me wrong again, I will certainly be happy because I am not a Laker fan, but more of a Celtics’ follower. For the Game 4 between the Heat and the Celtics, even with the Heat still up, 2-1, after the Celtics took Game 3, in the online betting, the Nuggets still have a plus 3.5. But I am putting my money, where my mouth is and bet on Boston.

I just believe that Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker, and Jaylen Brown, now joined by Gordon Hayward, who contributed substantially in Game 3 after missing several games previously, is a better team than Jimmy Butler and his crew, more so that veteran Andre Iguodala is reportedly doubtful for Game 4.

And in the end, I see a Lakers-Celtics finals—a scenario that is more probable than possible for me.
