Mindoro checks skid, outlasts Parañaque in double OT

The Mindoro Disiplinados snapped their four-game losing streak, defeating the Paranaque Aces in double overtime, 90-87, on Saturday in the Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Luigi Natada buried a reverse lay-up with 23.5 seconds in the second overtime to take an 88-87 lead for Mindoro which it sustained until the end.

After Jielo Razon missed a three for Paranaque, Jay Axalan scored two free throws with 1.9 seconds left for Mindoro. The final play of the game saw a miss by Razon from rainbow country.

Mindoro now moves to a share of eighth place with Paranaque with a 2-5 win-loss slate, as the Disiplinados look to move up and join the top six teams who will move to the playoffs.

Natada finished the game with 29 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Jhon Jerrick Caspe tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rodel Vaygan also had 17 points as Dwight Jasper Garcia dominated the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Razon had 18 points and nine assists as Vincent Alves added 15 points and 18 rebounds in a loss by the Aces.

Meanwhile, Mindoro will look to sweep its weekend games as it faces the Stan Spartan 4th District (1-7) at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The La Union PAOwer go up against the Bulacan DF Republicans at 4 p.m. while the Taguig Generals face the Paranaque Aces at 6 p.m. The games are streamed on NBL-Pilipinas Facebook and YouTube and aired on television on Solar Sports.
