2 shooters strengthen SBC roster

Two new recruits are expected to provide answers to the San Beda Red Lions’ need to have accurate shooters in their roster.

This is where new recruits JV Gallego and Brendon Ocampo come in.

The 5’11” Gallego, who normed 7.2 points on 40-percent shooting, to go with 2.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists, is coming in from the National University Bulldogs and can suit up for the Lions after a year of residency.

On the other hand, the 6’1” Ocampo is Filipino-Canadian combo guard, who came over a few years back, playing for the Durham Crossovers in the NBTC. The 19-year-old Ocampo, who averaged 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds, will be ready when Season 96 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament comes.

Team manager Jude Roque said the two will fill in spots in the Red Lions’ roster, following the departure of AC Soberano and Evan Nelle.

Roque said Ocampo reminds him of Robert Bollick Jr.,  a former Red Lion now playing in the Philippine Basketball Association for NorthPort.

“I like his passion and energy on the floor. He reminds of a young Robert Bollick,” added Roque.

Soberano, like Bollick, has graduated, while Nelle has transferred to the La Salle Green Archers.

The Red Lions lost their bid to claim their 23rd cage title to the Letran Knights last year.
