Magsanoc is 3×3 coach for Tokyo qualifiers

Ronald Magsanoc will be the head coach of the Gilas 3×3 men’s basketball team in its coming qualifying stints for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Philippines will be sending a national squad to the 3×3 OQT in New Delhi, India from March 18 to 22.

Magsanoc successfully handled the national men’s team to the gold medal in the recent 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The lineup then was made up of Philippine Basketball Association players Chris Newsome, Jason Perkins, Mo Tautuaa and CJ Perez.

Magsanoc earlier coached the national 3×3 teams in the 2018 FIBA 3×3 World Cup in the Philippines, the 2018 FIBA 3×3 Challenger in Shanghai and the 2018 FIBA 3×3 under-23 World Cup in Xi An, china.

The Olympic qualifier in India will have teams from 20 countries, divided into four pools of five teams each.

The Philippines is grouped in Pool C with Slovenia, France, Qatar and Dominican Republic.

The choices of players here will include those playing in the 3×3 League and have undergone a training camp under Liman ace and China head coach Stefan Stojacic and Serbian strength and conditioning coach Darko Krsman.

The top two bets in this pool of players are Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol.

Also listed as candidates are Dylan Ababou, Karl Dehesa, Leonard Santillan, Chris de Chavez, Gab Banal, Jaypee Belencion, Leo de Vera and Ryan Monteclaro.

The top three teams in the tournament will gain qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
