Perlas stays undefeated to advance

The Perlas Pilipinas national women’s team remained undefeated in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Changsha, China.

Janine Pontejos unloaded 11 points for Perlas Pilipinas in their 22-5 triumph over Vanuatu in Pool A.

Their third straight victory gave them a slot in the Group C of the main draw with Japan and Sri Lanka.

Thailand got the last ticket to the main draw after defeating India, 21-15. Turkmenistan and Iran are up next for them in women’s Pool D.  

Also advancing to the main draw in Pool A are China, Australia and New Zealand.

In Pool B, Mongolia advanced with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

In the men’s division, top-seeded Japan, second seed China, third-ranked Mongolia have been given automatic slots.

They are joined by qualifiers Turkmenistan, Jordan, Qatar, New Zealand, South Korea, Australia, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei.

The men’s team bannered by injured Ricci Rivero did not advance.
