BATANG Gilas standout RC Calimag will miss some of the practices of the national team preparing for the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.

The 6’2 ½” Calimag, son of retired PBA player Ricky Calimag, suffered from a hyperextended knee injury during their quarterfinal game with Japan.

According to family members, Calimag will need to have his knee checked by sports medicine specialist Dr. Raul Canlas.

Members of the Batang Gilas squad arrived in Manila Monday evening.

The team made history during the quarterfinals of the Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship in Foshan, China last Thursday.

Calimag scored what proved to be the winning basket in the last eight seconds, sending Batang Gilas to a 72-70 triumph over Japan.

With the win, Batang Gilas reached the semifinals and earned a slot to the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, with New Zealand, Australia and China, from June 30 to July 8 in Argentina.

Despite his injury, Calimag is expected to be back midway through the team’s preparations for the tourney.
