Neil Tolentino scored game-winning shot in the last 2.5 seconds, sending the Letran Squires to a 91-87 triumph over the JRU Light Bombers Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.

His basket came after JRU’s Ronnie Camua turned the ball over due to an offensive foul.

“Nasa akin po ang option. Kaya, hindi na po ako nagdalawang isip,” said the 19-year Tolentino, a transferee from National University.

With the victory, the Squires went on to earn their sixth win in 10 matches in the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Junior Basketball tournament.

They moved up to third, and overtook the San Beda Red Cubs and the Arellano University Braves, who have the same 6-5 win-loss records.

Kurt Reyson showed the way with 20 points for the Raymund Valenzona coached Squires.

The Light Bombers kept matters close until the last 45.9 seconds.

That was when Tristan Tolentino fired a triple, sending the game to its eighth and final deadlock, 87-all.

In the next play, Lakksaman Ganapathy put Letran back in the lead with his putback, 89-87.

The Light Bombers still had an opportunity to win it. But an offensive foul by Camua denied them that chance in the final 25 seconds.

“Maganda na ang kundisyon naming sa standings. Umangat kami sa third,” said Valenzona.
