Azkals retain FIFA ranking

This month, the Philippine Azkals national men’s football team did not budge on the latest FIFA rankings.

The Azkals stood still at 115th place at the end of recent FIFA World Cup.

Within the Southeast Asian region, the Azkals are considered as the second best team because they are behind Vietnam, which is 102nd in the world, and ranked 21st in Asia,

Meanwhile, France moved up six notches to the number one spot in the world rankings, while Belgium, moved up to second in the world, and Brazil is now third overall.

Croatia, the other finalist, climbed 16 notches to fourth overall.

Irish adviser Scott Cooper will take over the coaching chores of the Azkals. The team is set to go into a training camp in Bahrain this Septembers.

The Azkals are focused on getting the best preparation for the ASEAN Football Federation-Suzuki Cup and the Asian Football Confederation-Asian Cup. 

Meanwhile, Uruguay moved nine places to fifth in the world rankings, while England is now at sixth.

Home games at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod will spice up the campaign of the Philippine Azkals national men’s football team’s campaign in the 2018 Asean Football Federation-Suzuki Cup.

They will be involved in a five-team round-robin group stage of the Suzuki Cup, which will feature a new home-and-away format.

First, the Philippines will host Singapore in Bacolod’s Panaad Stadium on November 13 before playing either Brunei or Timor Leste away four days later. 

On November 21, the Azkals will clash with Thailand at the Panaad Stadium.

They will close out their group stage against Indonesia, in an away game in Jakarta, on November 25.

The semis will then run from December 1 to 6, with the two-legged finals being held on the 11th and 15th.
