David sparks hot start as Blackwater blasts Terrafirma in PBA Philippine Cup

The Blackwater Elite Bossings got the strong start they were looking for as they opened their PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup campaign with a convincing 107–87 victory over the Terrafirma Dyip on Friday at the Ynares Center in Montalban.

Christian David fueled the early surge, scoring 14 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter to give the Bossings momentum right from tipoff. His explosive start helped set the tone for a wire-to-wire win that gave Blackwater a confidence-boosting opening-day triumph.

RK Ilagan added 22 points as the Bossings stayed in control throughout the game, maintaining a double-digit cushion in the final three quarters before cruising to a 20-point victory.

“We’re happy we got the job done today. We really wanted to start on a good note,” said Blackwater head coach Jeff Cariaso. “We had a good first half, but there’s still a lot to learn and improve on.”

Rookies Dalph Panopio and Jed Mendoza chipped in 10 points apiece, helping the Bossings build a 50–42 lead at halftime. Ilagan then drilled seven points in the third period as Blackwater stretched its advantage to 79–61 heading into the final frame.

Jerrick Ahanmisi led Terrafirma with 25 points in the losing effort, as the Dyip fell to the bottom of the standings after the opening week.
