Harvey Macadangdang delivered a solid performance with 18 points as the Letran Squires turned back the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers, 62-52, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament on Saturday at the FilOil Arena in San Juan.
The Squires built enough cushion to withstand a late rally from the Light Bombers, who managed to hold them to just six points in the fourth quarter. Justine Laxamana topscored for JRU with 12 points.
Despite the Light Bombers’ defensive stand, Letran secured the win with Earl Dahino’s clutch jumper in the final 2:55 that stretched their advantage back to 13, 62-49.
Macadangdang, supported by two other Squires, fueled a 13-point second-quarter burst that allowed Letran to pull away and establish a 56-43 halftime lead.
The victory propelled the Squires into a share of the Group B lead alongside the La Salle Greenhills Greenies.
