Filipino-American striking star Sean “The One” Climaco continues his rise in the ONE Championship flyweight Muay Thai division as he gets the chance to string together a win streak for the first time in the promotion.
Climaco returns to ONE to take on Akif Guluzada in the curtain raiser of ONE Fight Night 31: Kongthoranee vs. Nong-O II on May 3 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
After absorbing the first loss of his career when he ran out of bullets against the red-hot Johan Estupinan in a wild shoot-out, the 30-year-old got back to winning ways by outlasting the tough Diego Paez earlier this year.
A victory here would give the “Road to ONE: America” winner his third win in four fights in the promotion and push him further up the ladder of the loaded flyweight division.
It won’t be easy against Guluzada, who’s entering his first fight in the main roster after an unbeaten run in the ONE Friday Fights circuit. His streak culminated with a vicious elbow KO finish against Puengluang Baanramba.
Given both fighters’ exciting styles and willingness to let those hands go, this fight between two contract winners will set the tone for what’s expected to be a wild night — if not steal the show altogether.
The main event will be the rematch between #3-ranked flyweight contender Kongthoranee Sor Sommai and longtime former ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama in a flyweight Muay Thai bout.
Kongthoranee gave Nong-O a rude welcome to the flyweight division, outlasting the Thai legend and taking a split-decision win in their first bout last January.
Given how close the fight was, the two will meet again as Kongthoranee looks to hold his position in the rankings while Nong-O targets redemption, aiming to jumpstart his flyweight run with a victory.
