THE Perpetual Help Junior Altas, the Emilio Aguinaldo College Brigadiers and the San Beda Red Cubs led the standings in the first week of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 Juniors’ Basketball Tournament in FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The Junior Altas crushed the Arellano University Braves, 92-80, while the Brigadiers edged the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers, 57-56, to earn their third win in four games on Tuesday.
Jan Roluna powered the Joph Cloepas-mentored Junior Altas squad with 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block in his 21 minutes and 23 seconds of play.
Three more Junior Altas had double-digit contributions, namely GenTri native Louie Rosales with 19 points, 2 boards and 3 steals; JD Pagulayan with 17 points, 5 boards, 2 steals and an assist; and LeBron Jhames Daep with 14 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Mapua-Malayan School stunned league leader San Beda, 71-69, for its second win, dropping the Red Cubs into a tie for the lead with the Junior Altas and the Brigadiers at 3-1.
Arellano U, La Salle Greenhills, JRU, Mapua and defending champion Letran Squires are tied at 2-2; the San Sebastian College Staglets are at 1-3, while the Lyceum Junior Pirates are winless in 4 games.
The Staglets beat the Junior Pirates, 83-77; the Brigadiers ripped JRU, 57-55; and the Squires outclassed the Greenies, 86-80.
