Racing action swings back to southern Luzon’s sailing mecca with the holding of the 22nd Punta Fuego Regatta set on Feb. 1 and 2 in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Organized by the Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Foundation (Phinsaf) and the Punta Fuego Yacht Club, and co-presented by Landco Pacific Corp., the event is one of the country’s longest-running and most-awaited yachting tournaments.

The two-day tourney, which will see Keelboat IRC and cruising, and ocean multihull classes, includes a Windward Leeward course, the challenging Fortune Island Race and a coastal course along Nasugbu Bay.

Veteran sailors from Phinsaf events are expected to compete and renew their friendly rivalries.

“The Philippines is a haven for sailing, as it is an environment-friendly sport. With thousands of beautiful islands, friendly people, ideal wind and seas, it has the potential to put the archipelago on the map as among the world’s best,” says Club Punta Fuego general manager Edgar Krohn.

He said that the sailing event will be a big boost in promoting the country as an international sailing hub in line with the sports tourism thrust of the Department of Tourism.

The Club has also been serving as the starting point of the long-distance Busuanga Cup for the past decade, which is part of the BPI Private Wealth’s yacht series.

In between competitive racing, sailors and their families can bask in the luxurious setting and facilities of Club Punta Fuego, a Fisher Island-Inspired (Miami, Florida) residential resort managed by AHG (Anya Hospitality Group). So-called because of its flame-like peninsular contour, this premier membership property blends nature’s beauty, modern elements, and the timeless charm of Spanish-Mediterranean architecture.

The 22nd Punta Fuego Regatta is supported by Anya Resort Tagaytay, Niyama Wellness Center, Camp John Hay, Wine Drop, Unioil, Reside Siargao, Marina del Sol Resort & Yacht Club, New World Makati Hotel, Mangiamo Restaurant Makati, and Giraffe Boutique Hotel Baguio.
