Baguio receives P8m Batang Pinoy, PNG cash prize

THE city government of Baguio finally received the P8 million cash reward for its first-place feat in the Batang Pinoy National Championship and 2nd runner-up finish in the Philippine National Games in 2023.

Asst. City Administrator Vittorio Jerico Cawis and City Sports and Development Officer Gaudencio Gonzales, in behalf of Mayor Benjamin Magalong, received the check from Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richard Bachman in a simple turnover program held on Jan. 15 at the PSC office in Manila.

The city received P5 million and P3 million for its performances in the Batang Pinoy and PNG, respectively.

During the program, the PSC chair commended the city for its consistent stellar showings in the national sports events.

After the awarding, the city sports team, with PSC representative in Baguio Dr. Willy Occidental, sat with Bachman who gave updates on new plans and developments for this year’s edition of the national sports events

Gonzales said that the cash prize will be infused into the city’s sports development programs mostly for the purchase of sports equipment for the use of the athletes.
