Omega battles Blacklist in P8.7m esports tourney

THIRD seed Smart Omega seeks to make a difference in the final stages of the of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 14 (MPL S14) as it seeks out a big chunk of the prize pot totalling $150,000 or roughy P8.7 million.

After ending Fnatic Onic Philippines’ winning streak during the eliminations, Omega will meet Blacklist International at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the play-ins’ stage at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.

“The job’s not done,” said one of Omega’s coach Alec Alvarado, following their 2-1 stunner of Fnatic two weeks ago.

Omega will bank on the performances of one of their leading members in Andrew “Andoryuuu” Flora.

The 19-year-old Flora pulled off seven kills in its final match as Omega improved to third place with its 9-5 win-loss record and earned a chance to overtake the second-running Falcon AP.Bren (9-4).

Later, Team Aurora battles Team Liquid Philippines at 7 p.m., in the second part of the play-ins.

The fourth-seeded Aurora took the fourth seed with its 8-6 slate after putting RSG Philippines out of contention with a 2-0 sweep off their 13-5, 14-4 wins.

The winner of the single-round play-in advances to the best-of-five semifinals.

Fnatic ONIC (FNOP), which advanced to the upper bracket semis, is among the favorites after dominating the regular season, with a record-breaking winning streak and 13-1 record.

The grand finalists will advance to the M6 World Championships, with the winner taking home $35,000 or P2.1 million and the runner-up receiving $20,000 (P1.2 million).
