Tamayo leaves B.League team Ryuku

Carl Tamayo has left the defending champion Japanese B.League champion Ryukyu Golden Kings a year after signing up with them

Tamayo, who saw action for two seasons, is returning home next week, according to his handlers at Virtual Playground, which is managed by Charlie Dy.

The 6’8” Tamayo will take time to reflect on his next moves and  the next step that he will take  in his future.

Tamayo’s release was a result of his request to the management the Golden Kings from the VP Global Management Group.

“Though my time with the team may be ending, your support will forever be etched in my heart. Thank you for making my time with the Ryukyu Golden Kings truly unforgettable,” said Tamayo in a statement.

Tamayo got to play for the team during the EASL Champions Week.

Tamayo scored his first points in the B.League during a win over the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins.

As a rookie,  Tamayo was given  limited playing time, but was still able to help the Golden Kings  win a championship in the 2022–23 season.

In his second season, Tamayo still had limited playing time, but was still able to develop his game further. as a player.

 In Ryukyu’s first win, Tamayo  had 15 points against the Saga Ballooners. He had 10 rebounds in a winning rematch against them.

He  played in the 2024 Asia All-Stars vs Rising Stars game, with Tamayo suiting up for the  Asia All-Stars, which had him finishing with 18 points.

“We believe that finding a team where Carl can maximize his potential and make a substantial impact is in his best interest,” said the management team in a statement.

Tamayo played to two years with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, before deciding to play his final season with the school.

While in the B. League, Tamayo averaged 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.5 minutes for  Ryukyu, which has a 20-9 win-loss record, and  is on top the Western Division.
