FORMER Philippine Basketball Association player and Games Amsement Board commissioner Matthew “Fritz” Gaston has completed the Philippine Sports Commission board following his appointment as commissioner.
Gaston, whose background covers both sports and corporate management, is the 4th ex-athlete in the board joining PSC chairman Richard Bachmann, a former PBA player, too, bowling legend Bong Coo, and fencer Walter Torres.
“I told chairman Dickie that I will work with his team. It is time to focus more on the Olympic sports, considering the funding resources of the PSC, work on the grassroots level too and upgrade the coaches’ level of skills,” said Gaston.
His appointment was confirmed to him by Bachmann himself, who played against Gaston’s Ateneo team.
“He was our nemesis in the center position, I had Danny Francisco, now we are on the same team,” said the new commissioner.
