Muay Thai next for Allazov? Not quite, says new champion

Newly crowned ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Chingiz “Chinga” Allazov can now call himself the best in the world after running through the loaded division, which he capped off with a stellar knockout of Superbon Singha Mawynn this past Saturday.

Allazov cemented himself as the undisputed pound-for-pound kickboxer on the planet after blasting Superbon, knocking down the Thai superstar thrice in the second round of their main event battle at ONE Fight Night 6 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

By finishing Superbon, Allazov now owns wins over two of the men considered to be the best in the most stacked division in all of kickboxing—Superbon and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong.

So is now the time for him to try and get another ONE World Title in a different sport? Allazov said not quite.

“Before, all my fights were Muay Thai. I like Muay Thai. I like elbows, I like knees, I like clinching. I started my career in Muay Thai, not kickboxing,” he said.

“After I went to K1, I changed my style a bit and trained only [in kickboxing]. For me, this is another style, [a different] style. Timing in Muay Thai [is different from] timing in kickboxing.”

But that doesn’t mean his dream fight with ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK.Saenchai will remain a dream. For Allazov, the fight can still happen.

“Maybe Tawanchai wants to come to my [sport] and fight with me in kickboxing, no problem. Welcome! I said it before, but me going to Muay Thai is another situation. I don’t like it,” he said.

While a cross-over matchup between two of the top stars in the featherweight division sounds enticing, Allazov believes there are still a lot of fights for him in kickboxing that make sense – including a rematch with Sitthichai.

“I like [the idea of this] fight [with Tawanchai]. But my division has many fighters. I said before, Sitthichai is one of the best kickboxers in the world. Really. Before he was a pound-for-pound kickboxer. For me, Sitthichai is better than Marat Grigorian and better than [Giorgio] Petrosyan, better than Superbon,” he said.

“I said this before. This is another style. Sitthichai and Superbon are [different] types of fighters. I have big respect for Sitthichai. I have big respect for Superbon. But now I think Sitthichai will fight with Grigorian, and whoever wins will face me.

“Maybe Petrosyan will fight with Grigorian. No problem. I’ll wait for who wins the fight. I’ll fight with them. I like this fight. I will focus on it 100 percent. For me, no problem with [who] my opponent [is]. But [for] now, I don’t have plans with Muay Thai.”
