Favored teams prevail in QCBL-Koen opener

Favored teams flexed their muscles early as they trounced their respective opponents in the recent opening of the 5th season of the Quezon City Basketball League-Koen Starter Draft division at Novadeci Convention Center in Novaliches.

Je Mateo X Tito Pogi opened the tournament with a masterful beating of GNG Construction, 71-55, with Kyle Nacianceno and Ralph Romero leading the charge with a game-high 20 points and 14, respectively.

Agnus Dei relied on the prolific, balanced scoring of its main men to score a similarly lopsided win over MYCG, 86-68, in the second game.

Five Agnus Dei players logged double figures, led by Jeff Razon who had 24 points, followed by Robert Pascual (15), Mark Catacutan (12) and Jaypee Roman and Jon Perlas, who had 10 each.

In other games, Eva Eye beat Dream Snipers, 74-51; Henry Evalle Photography prevailed over Hustlin Bullies, 73-67; Hungry Bully feasted on Ihaw at Ako, 89-68 and RVMC thumped Britanny Ballers, 65-58.

There will be also an All-Star game on November 26, alongside a charity event to be held in partnership with Koen, an AI Robot trading platform.

The tournament format is single-round elimination with the champion in Bracket A going up against the champion in Bracket B to determine the overall champion of this tournament also supported by Kaizen PH, Premiere Driving School, Hungry Bully, Razor’s Edge Cuts and Tatts, and HE Photography.

The championship match will be held on Dec. 16.
