Maverick Ahanmisi’s big effort from outside the paint in the fourth period lifted the Converge Fiber Xers to a 97-84 triumph over the Terrafirma Dyip on Wednesday in the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

TRIPLE TEAM. Terrafirma Dyip’s Aldrech Ramos fights through the triple-team of pesky Converge defenders in a PBA Philippine Cup game at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

The 6’2” Ahanmisi drilled in 14 of 17 points in the final 12 minutes of action and shot crucial baskets that powered the Fiber Xers to their second triumph in five outings.

This included four triples, with the last one finding its mark in the remaining 2:26, widening Converge’s advantage to five, 86-81.

Later, Ahanmisi’s two charities in the final 1:09 kept Converge ahead by eight, 92-84.

Mike Digrigorio banged in a game-high 19 points for Converge, sinking 12 in the last quarter, with his two freebies in the 53.8 seconds allowing the Fiber Xers’ to move away by 10, 94-84.

Converge coach Jeffrey Cariaso said it was good rebounding which allowed them to dominate Terrafirma.

The Fiber Xers managed to outrebound the Dyip in the last canto with 11 boards, with Ahanmisi hauling the most with four.

In a game like this, Terrafirma is still tough even if they have a couple of injuries. We just had to focus on defense and on rebounds,” said Cariaso.
