Indonesia and Malaysia bagged the last two qualifying berths at the close of hostilities Tuesday evening in the third round of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup qualification in Ulaanbaatar.

A 7-0 rout by Indonesia of Nepal in the Group A action in Kuwait, and Malaysia’s 4-1 triumph over Bangladesh in the Group B clashes in Kuala Lumpur kept the Philippine Azkals national men’s team from the making it to the tournament proper.

Better tiebreak records  needed by the second place finishers to advance to the main draw allowed Indonesia and Malaysia to join a total of 24 teams that will see action in the main event.

Indonesia finished with seven tiebreak points with Kyrgyzstan to lead the second placers into the main draw with Malaysia and Thailand, which had six points apiece after the Thais lost to Group C leader Uzbekistan, 0-2.

Hong Kong still entered with six points after losing their final Group encounter with India, 0-4.

The Palestine Knights, first beat the Philippines, 4-0, and  swept their three-game assignment in Group B, to make qualification with group stage leaders Jordan (A), Uzbekistan (C), India (D), Bahrain (E) and Tajikistan (F).

The Azkals ranked sixth in the tiebreak with four points.
