College standouts find new homes in PBA

Seven collegiate standouts, led by Letran’s Jeo Ambohot, have found club teams to join in following Sunday’s Philippine Basketball Association Season 47 Rookie Draft, at Robinsons Place-Manila.

The 6’7” Ambohot emerged as a no. 3 pick, chosen by the Converge Fiber Xers, along with fourth choice Justin Arana of Arellano University.

The choice of Ambohot comes after he helped the Letran Knights post a 68-63 win over the Mapua Cardinals in Game 1 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 97 men’s basketball finals.

Ambohot, who is part of the NCAA Season 97 Mythical Team, averages 10.56 points, 9.78 rebounds, and 1.56 blocks for the Knights, while Arana norms 14.78 points and 17.11 rebounds.

The acquisition of Ambohot and Arana comes after Blackwater decided to reel in Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser as its no. 1 pick, and Terrafirma took in Jeremiah Gray as the no. 2 draftee.

Talented Ateneo Blue Eagles’ guard Gian Mamuyac edged emerged as the fifth pick of the first round, with the Rain or Shine Elastopainters getting him.

Phoenix Super LPG later brought in another prized Ateneo guard Tyler Tio at 14th overall, and in the second round, two days after Tio and Mamuyac ended their collegiate career with the Blue Eagles, three UAAP cage crowns and runner-up finish in Season 84.

San Sebastian’s JM Calma became the sixth pick after he got in NorthPort Batang Pier.

Javi Gomez De Liaño, who recently concluded his stint with Ibaraki in the Japan B.League, is the eighth pick, and was chosen to suit up for Barangay Ginebra.

Blackwater then took La Salle product Kurt Lojera as the ninth pick, while Rain or Shine then obtained Shaun Ildefonso of National Universsity as the 10th selection.

There were 66 players selected in the Rookie Draft, from a total of 75 players, who submitted their draft applications.
