The Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings struggled to hold on to a double-digit lead and turned to Justin Brownlee to finish the job on Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.Brownlee came up with a double-double of 36 points and 13 rebounds as he helped lift the Gin Kings  to a 99-93 win over the Bolts in Game 2 as they tied the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals series at 1-all.

The 33-year-old Brownlee knocked in 10 points in the last quarter, taking over after Chris Newsome’s triple in the last 2:20 allowed the Bolts to threaten, 91-94, in the last  2:20.

Brownlee’s steal off Chris Banchero and a dunk in the last 1:22, followed by three charities in the 26- and 21-second marks ensured a six-point Gin Kings’ victory.

Coach Tim Cone said they had trouble holding on to a 20-point lead established early in the third quarter.

“It was a matter of keeping our poise. You’d wish you’d keep that lead through. But in the finals it can be difficult, especially if the team that you are playing is really good. They’re good defensively, they’re good offensively. They did not panic and they got themselves back in the game,” said Cone.
