It may be small for now, but the perfume business that world gymnastics champion Carlos “Caloy” Yulo has put up together with his mother should inspire other athletes to venture into business during these difficult times.
Branded as “Scented Skills by Carlos Yulo”, the perfume lines have variants named after skills or moves in gymnastics, showcasing the sport for which the Yulo siblings are growingly becoming popular.
His younger brother Karl Jahrel Eldrew Yulo and sister Iza Yulo, the youngest among them, are lording it over in the local scene, including the Palarong Pambansa.
According to the perfume company’s page description, Scented Skills is founded by Yulo himself. “He personally picked every scent for men and women.”
The variants currently available are Dragulescu, Caloy’s favorite scent similar to Bvlgari’s. Other men’s scents are Round Off (version of Lacoste Red), Back Tuck (Clinique Happy), and Back Handspring (Cool Water).
Women’s scents include Side Aerial, Scented Skills’ own version of the Love Spell of Victoria Secret, Cartwheel (Omania Amethyste Bvlgari), Front Walkover (Be Delicious DKNY) and Split Leap (Eclat Lanvin).
Yulo’s mother, Angelica, is managing the business and offering a dealership program to those who are interested to go into the perfume business.
The family also owns a motorcycle repair shop and retailing business in Imus, Cavite.
It goes to show how the family takes care of the incentives that Yulo has accumulated from his victories in gymnastics, including the gold medal in the vault and silver in parallel bars in last year’s World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan.
It’s going to be a busy 2022 season for Yulo, who is looking forward competing in the SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam in May, September’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool, England.
Yulo trains in Tokyo, where he is also expected to graduate at the Teikyo University next week with a degree in Humanities.
