Bolts lean on import’s monster game

The Meralco Bolts drew strength from the big game of import Tony Bishop as they brought down the NLEX Road Warriors, 110-100, Friday in the resumption of the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Bishop, an American-born Panamanian import, drilled in 32 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists for the Bolts, who showed little signs of slowing down from the long layoff.

The Bolts picked up their third straight win in stopping the Road Warriors.

Bishop’s floater in the last 4:03 of the final period allowed the Bolts to enjoy a 13-point spread,  105-92.

Aaron Black made 19 points, while Chris Newsome produced 18 points and seven rebounds for the Bolts.

A triple and a jumper from Bishop in the 7:04 mark of the first period saw the Bolts climbing to an eight-point lead, 18-10. They went on to nurse their advantage from there.

The Road Warriors now have a 4-2 slate.

The Fil-Italian guard, who joined the ball club as a free agent during the break, was in uniform but did not see action.
