Team Philippines bagged two silver medals courtesy of Lim and Tsukii in the Karate Championships which came to a close on Wednesday at the Baluan Shola Sports Palace in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

After racking up three victories in the tournament, Lim and Tsukii lost their final matches to settle for the silver finish in their respective categories.

Tsukii, a gold medalist in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, bowed to hometown bet and recent Tokyo Olympic competitor Moldir Zhanbyrbay, whose 9-5 win earned her the gold medal in the women’s 50kg division.

Tsukii earned a final slot with victories over South Korea’s Jung Ji Young (4-1), Hong Kong’s Tsang Yee Ting (9-0) and Hawraa Al Ajmi of the United Arab Emirates (3-2).

Interestingly, Lim, 24, earned all her previous victories via close call.

She defeated Ku Chih-Ling of Chinese-Taipei, 5-4, then scored a solitary point win over Kymbat Toitonova of Kyrgyzstan, 1-0. Lim then earned the final slot with a 1-0 semifinal victory over Joud Aldrous of Jordan.

Adding bronze medals to the Philippines’ campaign were John Enrico Vasquez and Sakura Alforte in the U21 Men and Women’s Individual Kata events and Lemon Misu in the Under-21 Kumite female -61kg.
