The Philippine Basketball Association opened its 42nd season with a bang on Sunday as it looks forward to a fulfilling year ahead with the kick-off of its opening Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa expects the league to continue its improvement on its quality for the new season, picking up where it left off in the 41st season.
"After 41 years, the PBA has become an essential part of every Filipino's life. We're looking to continue that this season," said Narvasa. "We'll continue to work hard to bring the best and most exciting games for everyone's entertainment."
"We're aiming to provide more better games, more heroes and more legends this season. After the 41st season, the quality of the games have improved and we've seen top rookie picks create great match-ups with the veterans. Again, we're looking forward to another great season."
Narvasa then went on to express his satisfaction regarding the joint forces of the league and the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) to create the best possible National team.
"We're also happy and looking forward to what the PBA and the SBP have agreed on in terms of going all-out with our National team," he added.
As of this report, the initial game of the season was already underway with defending champion San Miguel already starting its title defense against revamped Star.
Observing the traditional opening ceremonies, the 12 teams and their players paraded and they were led by their respective governors and blooming muses.
