TEAM Far Eastern University 1, bannered by indoor volleyball team mainstays Bernadette Pons and Kyla Atienza, defeated the Air Force tandem of Joy Cases and Neneng Tapic, 21-17, to run away with the championship in the women’s division of the Mighty Sports Beach Volley Challenge.
Team UP 1 composed of Diana Carlos and Arielle Estrañero beat De La Salle U Team 1 of Cyd Demecillo and CJ Saga with the score of 21-19.
Due to the number of participating teams, all matches were limited to a set each.
Five teams, which arrived way beyond the call time and after the groups have already been drawn were refused participation.
Twenty-one teams in the women’s division and 15 teams in the men’s group played in the one-day event.
In the men’s division, FEU Team 1 of Richard Solis and Jude Garcia defeated the Rizal Technological University Team 1 of Peter Paul Galvan and Antonio Torres.
FEU Team 2 of Jeremiah Barrica and Kevin Hadlocon placed third in event held at the two sand-courts of the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City.
Winners received cash prizes and dinner for two certificates at the 5-star Century Patk Hotel.
All participants, officials and guests were treated to complimentary meals and drinks all day—a tradition in all events organized by Joe Cantada Sports in coordination with the Philippine Volleyball Federation.
