THE College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers leaned on the big plays of Janine Navarro and Ranya Musa as they came up with a 16-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-21, stopping of Perpetual Help on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

With the Lady Altas’ former assistant coach Macky Carino calling the shots, the Lady Blazers unleashed well-timed shots to get past their rivals and advance to the last phase of the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball stepladder semifinals

Navarro and Musa led the Lady Blazers with 15 points each, while Jeanette Panaga had 11 markers.

The Lady Altas tried  to force a decider with a closing 10-5 rally in the fourth frame to move ahead, 16-15, on a block/kill by Ma. Lourdes Clemente on Panaga.

But the Lady Blazers refused to crumble and banked on Carino’s familiarity of the Altas’ system of play to turn the tables in their favor.
