UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University dispute the remaining semifinal berth in a sudden death playoff today in the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Tigresses and the Lady Tamaraws, winners of combined 43 championships and who have been on a decline in recent years, hurdled their final, elimination-round matches over the weekend to wound up with identical 6-8 records to force a playoff for the No. 4 seed in the step-ladder semifinals.

In the men’s Final Four, top-ranked Ateneo battles No. 4 Adamson University at 2 p.m., while second seed UST clashes with defending champion National University at 10 a.m.
Toting twice-to-beat advantages for finishing 1-2 in the eliminations, the Blue Eagles and Growling Tigers need only to prevail once to march to the best-of-three championship series.
With its post-season campaigns on the line, UST easily beat University of the East, 25-10, 25-22, 25-11, while FEU eliminated Adamson, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18, to stay alive.
