ONE Fighting Championship returns to Manila this April with world-class wrestler Ben Askren defending his welterweight crown for the first time against Brazilian veteran Luis Santos.

The Askren-Santos championship will headline the fight card, which is dubbed ONE FC: Valor of Champions at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“We are kicking off 2015 with three spectacular events lined up to start the year,” said ONE FC CEO Victor Cui, who expects nothing but a slam-bang action in the main card.

“Ben (Askren) is the absolute best in the world and we are excited to see him up against the highly skilled Luis Santos. We are also ecstatic at the chance to be back in Manila on April 24 and in Singapore on 22 May to treat fans to world-class mixed martial arts action,” added Cui.

Askren, the former NCAA Division I All-American wrestler, crowned himself the welter king in just his second fight in the ONE FC following a technical knockout triumph over erstwhile champ Nobutatsi Suzuki of Japan.

Unbeaten in 14 MMA fights, Askren is considered to be one of the best fighters in the world in his division. He was undisputed champion in the Bellator before plying his trade in ONE FC.

He will be facing an opponent, who made short work of Bakhtiyar Abbasov in his ONE FC debut.

Santos is a mixed martial arts veteran from Brazil with over 70 professional fights on his record, featuring 61 wins with over half of those wins by stoppage.

With a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a penchant for spectacular finishes, Santos made his successful ONE FC debut last November with an emphatic KO of Bakhtiyar Abbasov. Against Ben Askren, Santos is expected to come in at full strength for a shot at the ONE FC Welterweight World Title.

Askren’s confidence is at all-time high.

“(The year )2015 is going to be the year of Ben. I will defeat anybody they put in front of me and rule over the welterweight division.”
