BASKETBALL icon Samboy Lim, who has been in a state of sleep for almost two months, is now awake, according to his ex-wife and manager.
“Gising siya pero hindi nakakausap. Nakatingin lang nang diretso. Sa gabi naman ay tulog din. Parang normal ang tulog at gising. Pero wala pa masyadong consciousness,” said Carl Vendicacion, Samboy’s manager for his Basketball Clinic Program.
Vendicacion also said that they are happy because there is significant development every time they visit.
Lelen Berberabe, Lim’s former wife, said the family is preparing to set up a “hospital room at home,” complete with all medical equipment and hospital bed the PBA star needs.
The 52-year-old basketball legend spent over two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit and another week in the step-down Intermediate Care Unit. He was transferred to a regular room and is now awaiting discharge from The Medical City.
Lim has a trache in the neck to allow him to breathe through a direct opening in the windpipe without the use of the nose or mouth. He also has a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy), a tube inserted in the mouth to the stomach for feeding purposes.
“Sam’s organs are all stable. His blood pressure and heart are fine,” said Berberabe, a lawyer and president/CEO of Home Mutual Development Fund or Pag-Ibig Fund.
The Lim family is grateful for the overwhelming support and concern of friends and fans.
