Alden Richards is taking on his first antagonist role in the upcoming Hollywood action film “Big Tiger,” after more than a decade of taking the roles of leading men.
On Sunday, Dec. 21, the actor said in a press conference that portraying a villain has long been on his bucket list, calling the role a challenging but welcome change.
Alden plays John Lynch, a character that pushed him to explore unfamiliar emotional and physical territory.
“Iba, medyo disturbing kasi hindi ako sanay. But at the end of the day, when I saw the teaser, I think I am going to like this job,” he shared.
He said the role demanded new approaches to body language, emotional expression, and extensive stunt preparation, as the film leans heavily on action. The actor added that antagonist roles offer more range and unpredictability, allowing actors to explore eccentric and volatile traits.
Alden also serves as a co-producer of “Big Tiger,” making it the first international project of his production company, Myriad Entertainment. He said the venture aims to give back to the industry by creating opportunities for Filipino talent and workers.
Written and directed by Keoni Waxman, “Big Tiger” is scheduled for a global theatrical release in 2026. The cast includes Byron Mann, Katherine McNamara, Luke Goss, and Max Collins.
